Eagles Clinch Playoff Berth, now eye Pacific Division win

The magic number is currently 5 to win the Pacific Division

We're down to the last 4 regular-season games, and if you're keeping an eye on the standings with the AHL's Playoff Primer then you know that the Eagles have clinched a playoff berth, but to win the Pacific Division and be a one-seed, thus receiving a bye in the first round, the magic number is now 5. There are a few win/loss variables involved, but that means that 5 points are needed to win the division. Teams that become seeds 2, 3, and 4 in the Pacific Division will receive home-ice priority, hosting seeds 5, 6, and 7. See below for how the points add up.

How we can get points:

• We get 2 points for every win in regulation or win in overtime
• We get 1 point for every overtime loss or shootout loss

What is the magic #?

Magic # is the number of points needed by a team to clinch a playoff berth. A team's magic # is reduced when it earns standings points, or when the team with the highest possible total outside the playoff picture fails to earn standings points. A team clinches a playoff berth when its magic # reaches zero.
