The Eagles Season of Giving
Dec 8, 2020
The holiday season has traditionally signaled the season of giving throughout the world, a tradition that has carried over into the Budweiser Events Center at Eagles home games since 2003. In that time, the team and its fans have supported the local community in a variety of efforts that have become hallmarks of Colorado Eagles hockey. The efforts would typically kick off with our annual Stick Up for Kids game, presented by The UPS Stores of Fort Collins. This night is held at our home game on the Saturday following Thanksgiving and provides underprivileged children the chance to meet a player and receive a custom-designed, signed hockey stick. It also provides local non-profit charities with the chance to promote how they impact less fortunate children in our community and raise funds for those causes.
The second Saturday in December has quickly become one of the most popular games of the season, as the Eagles faithful would traditionally flock to the BEC with thousands of teddy bears and stuffed animals in tow, celebrating Teddy Bear Toss, presented by 92.9 The Bear and Pedersen Toyota. Last year saw more than 12,000 bears fly onto the ice and head directly into the arms of less fortunate children, as well as a variety of agencies that support those kids across northern Colorado and southern Wyoming. Although there won’t be a Teddy Bear Toss this December, please hold on to those stuffed animals as those agencies will be in need of them following the pandemic and we are looking forward to a great toss in 2021!
The holiday season would typically conclude at the Budweiser Events Center during the final Eagles home game before the Christmas break with the annual Pucks and Paws game, presented by FNBO The Bank of the Eagles. This evening has continued to swell with excitement, as fans help support the Larimer Humane Society with donations, as well as exposure for those four-legged friends still looking for a place to call home. In addition, Eagles players would use this time of year to embark on a volunteer service project at the Humane Society’s Loveland facility, to help care for the animals and contribute to a multitude of tasks that keep the building and its vehicles in tip-top condition.
Unfortunately, this holiday season will not see the team on the ice or our beloved fans in the stands cheering on every exciting moment as has been the case in each of the previous 17 seasons. While we eagerly await reuniting at the Budweiser Events Center, we also know that several area non-profits are also in critical need of support during the winter months. That is why we are asking Eagles fans to consider helping out those causes that you have so generously supported year-in and year-out at our games. If there is a cause that you have traditionally supported at an Eagles game and you need more information on how you can help these wonderful charities during a vital period of need, please contact us via email at info@ColoradoEagles.com
