POT OF GOLD NIGHT RAISES $87,095 FOR FAMILY IN NEED

Pot of Gold Night Raises $87,095 for Family in Need

Mar 26, 2019

The Colorado Eagles, Lucky Joe’s, and Subaru of Loveland teamed up to host the eighth annual “Pot of Gold Fundraiser” during the Eagles game against the Manitoba Moose last Saturday and the event culminated in the fundraising of $87,095 for the Romito family of Mead, Colorado. The community fundraising program was centered around the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, as the organization spearheaded efforts to help change the luck of a local family in need. Fans celebrated the evening with Celtic music, step dancing and green beer, as the Eagles donned specially-designed St. Patrick’s Day Jerseys that were auctioned off as part of the effort. In addition to the silent auction, donations were also collected with the help of Larimer and Weld County Sheriff’s office during the game. The $87,095 was the most money that has been raised in the eight-year history of the “Pot of Gold.”

Since the inception of the “Pot of Gold” night, the organization has raised nearly $400,000 for families faced with the financial hardships that come with caring for a sick child. This year’s recipient was the Romito Family. Richard and Jamie are the parents to four amazing sons. Richard and their eldest son Nicholas both serve as police officers and the three younger sons are all diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (Dominic - 18, Collin - 12, Kaleb - 10). Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a fatal genetic muscle disease with no treatment and no cure.  All three boys are in wheelchairs, with two of them being 100% dependent on a chair. This leads to high medical equipment costs, as well as transportation costs and other medical expenses. They have started their own foundation to support young people with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, providing unique and fun opportunities to help improve the quality of life for others with this condition. The family had been in need of money for a down payment to move into their own accessible home able to accommodate three wheelchairs and the expanding needs of their sons as the disease progresses.

Prior to the opening faceoff, Eagles captain Mark Alt announced to the crowd that the players had joined together to start the fundraising for the night by donating $1,200 towards the Romito family. Subaru of Loveland jumped on board to help raise funds at the game and donated a portion of all new Subaru vehicles sold in the month leading up to the event. Subaru of Loveland made an additional donation during the game for all Chuck-A-Pucks that landed in the sunroof of the Subaru on the ice during the Chuck-A-Puck promotion. At the end of the night, Subaru of Loveland added a total of $7,500 in donations to the effort.

On behalf of the Romito Family, the Colorado Eagles would like to thank all of the incredible fans and sponsors who made the night such an amazing success, including PCL Construction who made a $20,000 donation to the fundraiser and the Budweiser Events Center who also made a donation and helped facilitate a wonderful evening.
