Eagles Staff Volunteers at Weld County Food Bank
Jul 7, 2020
The Colorado Eagles spent part of Wednesday volunteering at the Weld Food Bank, which has seen a major uptick in meals served due to COVID-19.
Staff members bagged string cheese sticks, among other tasks, for summer meal programs that assist kids in Weld County. The bags were 24 ounces and provided enough individually-wrapped cheese sticks for four children.
“It was an incredible experience for our staff to help play a small role in assisting with the amazing work that is done each and every day at the Weld County Food Bank,” said Eagles president and General Manager Chris Stewart. “These past several months have created an even greater need in our community and we can’t thank the volunteers and donors enough, as they are the true heroes that lead the charge to end hunger in our own backyard.”
Weld Food Bank served 13.6 million meals last year. It has already provided 16 million meals since the beginning of January.
The Eagles took to social media to share their experience and encourage fans, wherever they may be located, to volunteer with the food bank in their area.
“Your local food bank needs you this summer,” a tweet said. “They’re delivering more food now than ever before. If you’re healthy and able, we encourage you to contact your local food bank to find out how you can serve.”
