Eagles Seek Redemption Against Gulls
Mar 4, 2022
The Colorado Eagles will seek redemption in the second of three games against the San Diego Gulls this week.
Colorado had a strong 3-0 showing against the Gulls on the road but dropped the first match on home ice on Wednesday.
Although the Eagles nearly doubled San Diego’s shots on goal in each period, they found themselves in a 4-0 hole. Shane Bowers finally found the back of the net for Colorado 11:32 into the third period. Mikhail Maltsev would add a tally nearly five minutes later. Those would be the only blemishes on San Diego goaltender Lukas Dostal’s night though.
Dostal stopped 51 of Colorado’s 53 shots and was even able to add an empty-net tally of his own, sealing the deal for his team’s 5-2 win.
The night was full of roughness and penalties. Colorado would finish the night with 30 penalty minutes and San Diego finished with 48 penalty minutes. Stefan Matteau and Trevor Carrick dropped gloves at the mid-way point of the second period, followed by a fight between Keaton Middleton and Greg Printz in the third period. Both Middleton and Printz were assessed 10-minute game misconduct penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Tensions are sure to be high as the teams face each other in two more consecutive nights.
