Eagles Face Gulls at Home
Mar 2, 2022
The Colorado Eagles return home this week to take on the San Diego Gulls in three consecutive matchups. The first of the three takes place tonight at 7:05 pm.
Colorado has faced the Gulls three separate times so far this season, all in San Diego.
The first bout, back on November 3, saw the Eagles jump out to an early lead and hold on to it. Dennis Gilbert scored in the final seconds of the first period, followed by early second-period goals from Dylan Sikura and Alex Newhook. The Gulls would attempt a comeback with a power-play goal from Jacob Perreault late in the second and an early third period tally from Nikolas Brouillard, but couldn’t find the tying goal before time ran out. Colorado won 3-2.
The second meeting on January 26 also saw the Eagles come out on top. San Diego’s Alex Limoges got on the board first, scoring a power-play goal late in the first period. Kiefer Sherwood would answer less than a minute later. Colorado would go on to score three unanswered power-play goals, coming from Martin Kaut, Sherwood, and Sikura. San Diego would again attempt a comeback with two third-period goals from Brouillard and Trevor Carrick, but couldn’t find the tying tally before Cal Burke sealed the Eagles' win with an empty-net goal in the final second. Colorado won 5-3.
The most recent matchup between the two teams came on February 2. Sikura notched the Eagles’ first hat trick of the season, scoring one in the first period and two in the third period, one on an empty net. Sherwood also added a tally in the third period.
This matchup saw the Gulls in the lead for the first time this season, going into the third period with a 2-1 lead after goals from Axel Andersson and Benoit-Olivier Groulx. San Diego couldn’t seal the deal though, and the Eagles came out on top again, 4-2.
