Barracuda Hand Eagles First Shutout Loss of Season

SAN JOSE, CA. – Francis Perron netted a pair of goals, while Josef Korenar stopped all 16 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season, as the San Jose Barracuda defeated the Colorado Eagles, 5-0 on Sunday. The loss was Colorado’s sixth straight and also marks the Eagles first shutout defeat of the season.
The first period would see San Jose earn three opportunities on the power play, but some strong defensive play and sharp netminding from Spencer Martin would keep the Barracuda off the board, as the two teams would head to the first intermission in a scoreless deadlock.
The second period would see Perron open the scoring when he sliced through the slot, collected a centering a pass and steered the puck past Martin to give San Jose the 1-0 edge just 6:56 into the middle frame.
Less than four minutes later, and with the Barracuda on a 5-on-3 power play, Perron would step into a slapshot from the right point that would light the lamp and extend San Jose’s lead to 2-0 at the 10:33 mark of the second period. The Barracuda would dominate the shots-on-goal in the second stanza, outshooting Colorado, 17-2.
San Jose would keep its foot on the gas in the third period, as forward John McCarthy would grab a loose puck behind the Eagles net and scoop it past Martin to stretch the Barracuda’s lead to 3-0 at the 13:06 mark of the period.
Just minutes later, San Jose would strike on the power play when forward Vincent Praplan fielded a cross-slot pass and snapped it into the back of the net to make it a 4-0 advantage for the Barracuda with 3:37 remaining in the contest.
With time ticking away, San Jose forward Alex True would collect a rebound on the side of the net and stuff it home to give the Barracuda a 5-0 lead with only 18 seconds left in regulation.
Colorado allowed a season-high 47 shots-against in the contest, while being held to a season-low 16 shots. The Eagles went 0-for-5 on the power play, as San Jose notched two power-play goals on eight opportunities.
The Eagles will conclude their three-game road trip when they travel to Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, California to take on the Bakersfield Condors on Tuesday, November 20that 7:30pm MT.
