Avalanche Signs Englund, Hudon

DENVER – The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Charles Hudon and defenseman Andreas Englund each to one-year contracts for the 2022-23 season.

 

Hudon, 28, appeared in 66 games with the Syracuse Crunch during the 2021-22, recording 57 points (30g/27a). Selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the fifth round (122nd overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Hudon has produced 41 points (14g/27a) in 125 career NHL contests, all with Montreal.

 

The 5-foot-10, 190 pound left wing has also skated in 319 career AHL games with the Hamilton Bulldogs, St. John’s IceCaps, Laval Rocket, and the Syracuse Crunch, collecting 254 points (132g/122a). Hudon tallied 57 points (19g/38a) for Hamilton during his rookie campaign in 2014-15, ranking second among all first-year players in points and second in assists to earn a spot on the AHL All-Rookie Team. Hudon was selected for the AHL All-Star Game that season and again in 2019-20 when he tallied 35 points (27g/8a) for the Laval Rocket. Last season, Hudon collected 57 points (30g/27a) in 66 games played, with the Syracuse Crunch.

 

Prior to turning pro, Hudon played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2010-14. He appeared in 235 career games with the Chicoutimi Sagueens and Baie-Comeau Drakkar, finishing with 273 points (104g/169a). He paced all league rookies in assists (37) during his first season in 2010-11, earning a spot on the QMJHL All-Rookie Team, Rookie of the Year honors and the Michel Bergeron Trophy as the league’s offensive rookie of the year.

 

During the 2020-21 season he played with Lausanne in the National League, Switzerland’s top professional league, totaling 32 points (15g/17a) across 33 games.

 

The Alma, Quebec, native represented his country at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, recording two points (1g/1a) in seven games and also suited up for Canada at the 2011 IIHF Under-18 World Championship, tallying one point (0g/1a) in seven tournament outings.

 

Englund, 26, appeared in 57 games with the Colorado Eagles during the 2021-22, recording 12 points (2g/10a). Selected by the Ottawa Senators in the second round (40th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Englund has produced three points (0g/3a) in 33 career NHL contests, all with Ottawa. He has also skated in 285 career AHL games with the Belleville/Binghamton Senators and Eagles, collecting 46 points (9g/37a). The 6-foot-3, 189-pound defenseman registered an AHL career-best 11 assists and 14 points during the 2018-19 season and seved as an alternate captain for Belleville for the 2017-18 campaign.

 

Prior to coming to North America, Englund played with the Djurgardens organization in Sweden. He recorded 11 points (4g/7a) in 95 games for Djurgardens’ team in the Swedish Hockey League, the top level of professional hockey in Sweden. He also skated in 37 games with Djurgardens junior team in the J20 SuperElit, recording 10 points (5g/5a).

 

The Stockholm, Sweden, native played one season in Sweden’s second-tier league, Allsvenskan, in 2013-14, recording two points (1g/1a) in 19 outings.

 

Internationally, Englund represented Sweden at two IIHF World Junior Championships in 2015 and 2016, combining for two points (0g/2a) in 14 total tournament games and serving as team captain at the 2016 tournament.
