– Data protectors are skeptical about the Google software
Using the Google Expeditions platform, teachers on a tablet can virtually send their students on class trips around the world. The educator can also display background information and questions. The accompanying material is from the Stiftung Lesen. The students follow the events via so-called cardboards. Instead of looking through glasses, the children and adolescents look through virtual reality cardboard boxes, which are plugged into a smartphone and enable a three-dimensional display of images.
In Brandenburg, seven schools have tried the software
Over 50 German schools have participated in the pilot program so far. At the beginning of September the project started. Seven Brandenburg schools have already tried the virtual reality expeditions. They were visited by a Google expedition trainer who had tablets, smartphones and cardboards in their luggage. Students can download the app for free on their own smartphone and log in anonymously, as the Internet company emphasizes.
The Group wants to inspire young people for new technologies with its program. Says Google. Critics believe that the data giant is entering the education market for another reason: to bind the customers of tomorrow to the brand early on.
