Gill’s 35-Save Shutout Moves Series Back to Texas

LOVELAND, CO. – Allen goaltender Riley Gill stopped all 35 shots thrown his way, as the Allen Americans defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-0 in Game Five on Sunday. The victory now forces a Game Six in the series, with the Eagles still holding a 3-2 series lead. Forward Chad Costello collected a goal and an assist, while defenseman David Makowski chipped in a pair of assists in the win.

Allen opened the scoring on the power play when Costello collected a cross-slot pass and fed the puck into the back of the net, giving the Americans the 1-0 edge just 2:27 into the contest.

After a scoreless second period, Allen opened things up in the third. The onslaught started when forward Tyler Barnes took advantage of an Eagles turnover and rifled a wrister past Eagles goalie Lukas Hafner to stretch the Americans lead to 2-0 with only 2:33 gone in the final frame.

Less than a minute later, Allen forward Gary Steffes would finish off a rebound in the low slot to grow the Americans advantage to 3-0.

Colorado would pull Hafner in favor of the extra attacker while trying to capitalize on a power play, but the vacant net would be struck by forward Spencer Asachuk to make it a 4-0 lead for Allen with 3:21 remaining in regulation. The Eagles would come no closer, falling by a final count of 4-0.

Allen went 1-for-1 on the power play in the contest, while the Eagles were held 0-for-3.
