Allen Forces Game Five with 4-1 Win over Colorado

LOVELAND, CO. – The Allen Americans scored four unanswered goals to rally for a 4-1 victory over the Colorado Eagles in Game Four on Thursday. The win was Allen’s first of the series, as the Eagles still maintain control with a 3-1 series lead. Colorado and Allen combined for 121 penalty minutes in a physical contest that saw the Americans capitalize with a power-play goal, a shorthanded tally and a pair of even-strength goals.

The Eagles claimed an early advantage when rookie forward Julien Nantel tracked down a bouncing puck in the low slot and lifted it past Allen goaltender Riley Gill to give Colorado the 1-0 lead just 3:28 into the contest.

Moving into the second period, the Americans would strike back on the power play, as forward Chad Costello swatted a puck out of mid-air and into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1 at the 8:11 mark of the middle frame.

Allen would grab its first lead of the series when an Eagles turnover at the blue line created a shorthanded rush down the ice for forward Tyler Barnes, which he would finish with a backhander to give the Americans the 2-1 edge with only 1:03 remaining in the second period.

The third period would see Allen pull further ahead beginning with forward Alex Krushelnyski slicing on top of the crease on the rush and lifting a shot into the back of the net to grow the Americans lead to 3-1 at the 9:33 mark of the final frame.

Less than three minutes later, Allen forward Josh Britain sent a spinning shot from the low slot past the outstretched leg pad of Hafner, lighting the lamp and giving the Americans a 4-1 lead. The balance of the period would see a bevy of penalties doled out to both sides, as the Americans would hold on for the 4-1 victory.

Colorado finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, while Allen scored on one of its eight chances on the man-advantage. The Eagles were outshot on the evening by a final count of 25 to 18.
